Grand Slam

Al­ways good to wel­come new faces to the bridge ta­ble and last Wed­nes­day saw an­other player happy to try out bridge.

Last Wed­nes­day pro­duced many great hands and, like the pre­vi­ous week, a good few mem­bers bid small slams but made all 13 tricks. The spe­cial grand prize of­fered for bid­ding and mak­ing the Grand Slam re­mains in­tact. The win­ners on the night were Har­vey and Michael Ryan fol­lowed by Ann McCarthy and her reg­u­lar part­ner, Billy Dunne. In third place were Carol Wad­den and Linda Walsh.

The free be­gin­ners class is go­ing well and tu­ition com­mences for an hour from 6.30 p.m. un­til 7.30 p.m. prior to the usual club com­pe­ti­tion.

A warm wel­come awaits any body wish­ing to try this fun and chal­leng­ing card game. No book­ing re­quired; just turn up on the night at 6.30 p.m. at the Do­mini­can cam­pus in the Ecol­ogy Cen­tre.

Nep­tune

The Nep­tune Bridge Club draw night had some very in­ter­est­ing pair­ings and some reg­u­lar pair­ing were also drawn as can be seen from the re­sults.

The cards were very in­ter­est­ing and chal­leng­ing and on the North/ South side Peter McWal­ter and Birdie An­drews came first, sec­ond were Maria Kerr and Lyla Doyle and in third Pat and Maggie Rus­sell (Novice play­ers).

On the East/West side first were Joan Mad­den and Sta­sia Hagan, sec­ond were Eve­lyn Cul­li­nane and Phil Fox, while Pat Kerr and John Hop­kins fin­ished third.

Abbey

In first place were Sta­sia Hagan and Joan Mad­den. Sec­ond were Ber­nadette Roun­tree and Mary Flynn. In third place were Sheila Mur­phy and Cathal Louth. Con­grat­u­la­tions to all the win­ners and Happy Birth­day Mr Pres­i­dent.

Di­a­mond

In the first com­pe­ti­tion of Oc­to­ber, Brid Clancy and Phil Power took first place for North/South. In sec­ond were Clare Sally and Kay Plun­kett and in third Maria Magee and Judy Skates and in fourth Nancy O’Brien and Cather­ine Hal­li­gan. East/West win­ners were Paddy O’Brien and Mar­garet Bol­ger. Sec­ond were Molly Byrne and Rachel Judd, in third Teresa Leahy and Mar­ion Davis and in fourth Padraig Glee­son and Sea­mus Kennedy.

Fri­day saw Mon­ica Brady and Kay Plun­kett take first place for North/ South. Sec­ond were Nancy O’Brien and Mary Pierce and in third Ger Leni­han and Paddy O Brien.

Tak­ing vic­tory for East/West were Maria Magee and Rowena Brady. Maura Gaskin and Bri­die Nolan were sec­ond and Ger­tie Fee and Jane Cronin third.

Royal

Re­sults for Mon­day saw Ger Power and Eileen Shee­han with a strong lead 1st place fol­lowed by El­iz­a­beth McCarthy and Ena Hickey in sec­ond and closely be­hind in third place Sheila O’Leary and Maggie Glen­field.

Wed­nes­day was a very busy night of Bridge. First place over­all went to Joe Heaslip and Jack McEl­hin­ney. Mary Woo­ley and Dorothy John­son were sec­ond and Stella Doyle and Ann Looby were third.

Thurs­day is for be­gin­ners and im­provers and first place went to Bren­dan Blake and Robert Downes. In sec­ond place were Robert and Timmy Doyle and in third place Gina O’Sul­li­van and Jim O’Sul­li­van.

On Fri­day morn­ing first place went to Eric and Dorothy Lev­ingston. Gwen Tee­van and Dolores Heat­ley were sec­ond. Phyl­lis Ka­vanagh and Jane Brad­shaw were third.
