Impressive medal haul for Eagle Martial Arts students

A TEAM of students from Eagle Martial Arts, competed at the WKC World Kickboxing Championsh­ips last week.

The annual event which took place over five days was held in Ireland this year in City West Hotel, Dublin.

Eagle Martial Arts had seven fighters compete at the champi- onships and the overall medal haul was 11 medals , three gold medals, four silver medals and four bronze.

Students competed against fighters from USA, Canada, England, Germany and Northern Ireland.

The World Championsh­ip gold medals went to 12-year-old Paddy Harper in 40kg Light contact, 12-year-old Ricardo Whelan, in 45kg Point Fighting, and to 13-year-old Lewis Temple, 50kg Light Contact. 32 points; Cat 3: (16-20) 1st - Eddie Mason (19) 31 points, 2nd - Donncha O’Reilly (16) 31 points; Cat 4: (21-28) 1st - Ken Loughran (21) 34 points, 2nd - Pat Stapleton (22) 30 points.

All students train in Arklow and Bray under their coach/trainer Julie McHale, who is a former World and European kickboxing champion . O’Donnell (22) 42 points; 2nd Cyril Vickers (20) 42 points; 3rd Paul Corry (15) 41 points; 4th Ray Nolan (3) 40 points.
