FOOTBALL CLUB NOTES

It is an old saying in Co. Wicklow that you haven’t won a football championship unless you beat Rathnew in the final. Recently in Roundwood the parish team won the county under-15 Final beating Rathnew in a cracker of a game. This game had everything –-good old fashioned honest to God football played by two very fit, and for their age, tough teams. Our lads lead from the start but Rathnew drew level just before half time. A bit of argy bargy in the second half added to the entertainment of the game and it egged on our lads to step up the pace. With the introduction of a few subs, St Nicholas moved up a gear and became the first County Champions in this age group.

Our side of the parish was represented Ronan Kelly, Oisin Traynor, Cian Fox, Tadgh McCarthy, Willie Eager, Joe Mills and Seán Metcalfe as ‘starters’. We also had James Walsh, Ciaran Geoghan, Liam Metcalfe, Jack Keogh, Eoin Sheridan, Conor Manifold, Jimmy Flood, Ben Lawless, David Wright and Oisin O’Friel on what is now called ‘the finishers’ bench instead of ‘the subs’ bench.

The lotto jackpot now stands at €6,300. Last week Niall Curran and the club Lemon Syndicate matched three and won €100 each
