Court rejects new Ziv director

The Jerusalem Post - - NEWS - • Judy Siegel

The Nazareth Regional Labor Court on Monday ordered the cancellation of the appointment of Dr. Salman Zarka – the first-ever Druse to direct an Israeli hospital – as head of the Ziv Medical Center in Safed. The decision was the result of a lawsuit against the appointment alleging improper procedures. A new public tender must be issued within 60 days to choose a new director-general, and Zarka – who was previously responsible for ambulatory medical care of IDF soldiers – may apply to the new tender. He has run the Safed hospital for several months, but the deputy director opposed his appointment, arguing that the Civil Service Commission had no right to approve the appointment because Zarka presented his application late, as a result of his service during the last war in Gaza.
