ACTIVE LAW

The Jerusalem Post Magazine - - LETTERS -

Electric bikes are for all intents and purposes only a minor step down from mopeds, and similar to these are more motorbike than bicycle – and likewise should have compulsory registration and insurance.

Owing to their speed capability both legitimate and enhanced, the need for them be ridden responsibly and safely is a given. Yes, of course, ideally additional special lanes should be a priority and should be incorporated when upgrading routes or planning new ones.

By the way, I note that riders and passengers pictured in this article were devoid of safety helmets. If, as stated, the law requires the wearing of helmets and, as mentioned, 73% say they ride without, the law must be more active in addressing this matter and laying down more stringent fines for those transgressing.
