L’edificio diventa abito
The Building as a Dress
Offices and catwalk spaces are mixed to lush gardens in the sustainable new headquarter’s interiors of a Chinese fashion group.
560 “We envision it as a building with skin-and-bones,”, explains Ma Yansong, founder of MAD. “The correspondence of clothing and architecture is they both explore the relationship between the interior and the exterior”. The Beijing-based studio will complete within 2017 in Xianmen (China) the innovative headquarters building for the now global fashion group Xinhee and its six subsidiary brands. From the central atrium, the heart of the Design Center, six large petals as those of a flower house offices and gardens, and are covered in a “dress” of soft, translucent industrial fabric, PTFE, which shades the interior, crucial tool for sustainable climate control. Each brand is autonomous within its own “petal” but interacts freely with the others thanks to the fluidity of the layout and the connections between them. The radial layout offers everyone natural light, ventilation, and views. The collective dimension that begins in the atrium is underscored also by the possibility of using the space for fashion shows open to the public
