A COLOURFUL CAREER

Abitare - - Sommario -

( St.B)

Corraini Edizioni’s encounter with the brilliant, multi-faceted work of Marco Zanuso Jr has resulted in a book full of life and colour, an illustrated book-cumtravel diary, a work in progress on an artist who is always ready to reinvent himself. It opens with Zanuso Jr’s 1978 degree dissertation – a collection of sketches, performances, retouched prints and citations –then goes on to explore the rich body of work produced by the Milanese architect and designer. Colourful, origami-like furniture items (the Policromi collection for Galerie Italienne in Paris), experiments with light and minimal accessories tell of a creative process based on the naturalness of the lines drawn on a piece of paper and experiments with materials and production techniques. Zanuso Jr assembles metals, interweaves branches and models ceramic with a joy that goes beyond the purely practical, his inventions are ones that are “not to be taken too seriously”. The shapes and subtle colours photographed, designed and commentated on by the artist look back over a career spanning 40 years and offer a glimpse of a light-filled future.
