MO­NA­STE­RO DEL­LA VERGINE ANA­FO­NI­TRIA VIR­GIN ANA­FO­NI­TRIA MONASTERY Ri­sa­len­te al XV se­co­lo, ca­ro agli iso­la­ni per­ché vi sog­gior­nò in ere­mi­tag­gio San Dio­ni­gi, pa­tro­no dell’iso­la. All’in­ter­no si tro­va l’ico­na del­la Vergine pro­ve­nien­te da Co­stan­ti­no­po­li, di enor­me va­lo­re ar­ti­sti­co. È una me­ta mol­to fre­quen­ta­ta dai tu­ri­sti che qui tro­va­no una gran­de sen­sa­zio­ne di pa­ce. This monastery da­tes back to the fif­teen­th cen­tu­ry, and is dear to islan­ders be­cau­se Saint De­nis, pa­tron saint of the island, so­jour­ned the­re in se­clu­sion. In­si­de is an icon of enor­mous ar­ti­stic va­lue of the Vir­gin Ma­ry, from Con­stan­ti­no­ple. It is a ve­ry po­pu­lar de­sti­na­tion for tou­rists who find a great sen­se of pea­ce wi­thin.

MO­NA­STE­RO DEL­LA MA­DON­NA SKOPIOTISSA VIR­GIN SKOPIOTISSAS MONASTERY Ri­sa­len­te XV se­co­lo, sul­la ci­ma del Mon­te Sko­pios. Da que­sta al­tu­ra si go­de una splen­di­da vi­sta dell’iso­la, tan­to che i Ve­ne­zia­ni ave­va­no da­to al­la lo­ca­li­tà il no­me di Bel­ve­de­re. This monastery da­tes back to the fif­th cen­tu­ry and is lo­ca­ted on top of mount Sko­pos. From this height the­re is a view of the island so spec­ta­cu­lar that the Ve­ne­tians dub­bed this lo­ca­tion ‘ Bel­ve­de­re’.

MO­NA­STE­RO DI ELEFTHEOTRIA / ELEFTHEROTRIA MONASTERY Ap­pe­na fuo­ri da Ma­che­ra­do, si tro­va que­sto sin­go­la­re mo­na­ste­ro de­di­ca­to al­la Vergine Li­be­ra­tri­ce. Ha più l’aria di un ca­stel­lo, con le ca­rat­te­ri­sti­che tor­ri mer­la­te e le su­per­fi­ci bian­che or­la­te di co­lo­re ros­so. È tut­to­ra un con­ven­to abi­ta­to, do­ve vi­vo­no le suo­re ed è vi­si­ta­bi­le all’in­ter­no. This uni­que monastery de­di­ca­ted to the Vir­gin Li­be­ra­tor is found ju­st ou­tsi­de Ma­che­ra­do. It looks mo­re like a ca­stle than a monastery be­cau­se of its cha­rac­te­ri­stic cre­ne­la­ted to­wers and whi­te walls ed­ged in red. It is still in use to this day, and is ho­me to nuns and open to the pu­blic.

MO­NA­STE­RO DI SAN GIO­VAN­NI PRO­DRO­MO MONASTERY OF ST. JOHN BAPTIST È si­tua­to sul­la mon­ta­gna a nord di Aly­kes e con­ser­va ope­re di gran­de va­lo­re ar­ti­sti­co, tra cui le ico­ne rea­liz­za­te dai fa­mo­si pit­to­ri Pou­la­kis e Ba­fas, ol­tre a un pre­zio­so in­gi­noc­chia­to­io in le­gno. This monastery is lo­ca­ted on the mountain nor­th of Aly­kes and pre­ser­ves works of great ar­ti­stic va­lue, in­clu­ding the icons pain­ted by the re­no­w­ned pain­ters Pou­la­kis and Ba­fas, as well as a va­lua­ble woo­den pew.

CHIE­SA DI SAN DIO­NI­GI / CHUR­CH OF SAINT DE­NIS La cat­te­dra­le or­to­dos­sa è po­sta in una po­si­zio­ne sce­no­gra­fi­ca, sul lun­go­ma­re vi­ci­no al por­to do­ve at­trac­ca­no i tra­ghet­ti. Di gran­de va­lo­re ar­ti­sti­co l’in­ter­no, con nu­me­ro­si af­fre­schi, tra cui una pro­ces­sio­ne del­le re­li­quie di San Dio­ni­gi ai tem­pi del do­mi­nio ve­ne­to, ric­chi lam­pa­da­ri e la pre­ge­vo­le ur­na d’ar­gen­to con le re­li­quie del San­to rea­liz­za­ta dal gran­de ce­sel­la­to­re gre­co Ba­fras. This Or­tho­dox ca­the­dral is si­tua­ted in a sce­nic lo­ca­tion, on the wa­ter­front near the port whe­re the fer­ries dock. It is of a great ar­ti­stic va­lue in­si­de, wi­th nu­me­rous fre­scos, in­clu­ding a pro­ces­sion of the re­lics of Saint De­nis at the time of the Ve­ne­tian ru­le, or­na­te chan­de­liers and a va­lua­ble sil­ver urn, crea­ted by the great Greek en­gra­ver Ba­fas and con­tai­ning the re­mains of the saint.

CHIE­SA DI SAN NI­CO­LA AL MO­LO CHUR­CH OF SAINT NI­CHO­LAS OF MO­LE Per mol­ti se­co­li ap­par­te­nu­ta al­la Cor­po­ra­zio­ne dei ma­ri­nai, è l’edi­fi­cio più vec­chio di Piaz­za So­lo­mos che espo­ne i pa­ra­men­ti li­tur­gi­ci di San Dio­ni­gi. This chur­ch be­lon­ged to the guild of sai­lors for ma­ny cen­tu­ries and is the ol­de­st buil­ding in So­lo­mos Squa­re. It di­splays the li­tur­gi­cal vest­men­ts of Saint De­nis.

CHIE­SA DI SAN MAR­CO / CHUR­CH OF SAINT MAR­KOS Uni­ca chie­sa cat­to­li­ca pre­sen­te nell’iso­la e una del­la più an­ti­che: all’in­ter­no da am­mi­ra­re un di­pin­to at­tri­bui­to a Ti­zia­no e i ri­trat­ti dei ve­sco­vi la­ti­ni dell’iso­la. This is the on­ly Ca­tho­lic chur­ch on the island and one of the ol­de­st: in­si­de is a pain­ting at­tri­bu­ted to Ti­tian and por­trai­ts of the La­tin Bi­shops of the island.

DI­MO­RA SI­GNO­RI­LE RO­MA / RO­MA STATELY RE­SI­DEN­CE È una ca­sa no­bi­lia­re dell’an­ti­ca fa­mi­glia Ro­ma: un ele­gan­te edi­fi­cio del XVII se­co­lo, col­lo­ca­to al cen­tro del­la cit­tà, die­tro Piaz­za So­lo­moù ed ha sa­le da ri­ce­vi­men­to, una gran­de bi­blio­te­ca con edi­zio­ni ra­re e ri­trat­ti dei mem­bri del­la no­bi­le fa­mi­glia. This was the ho­me of the an­cient Ro­ma fa­mi­ly. An ele­gant se­ven­teen­th- cen­tu­ry buil­ding, it is lo­ca­ted in the cen­tre of the ci­ty, be­hind So­lo­moù squa­re, and fea­tu­res re­cep­tion rooms, a lar­ge li­bra­ry wi­th ra­re edi­tions and por­trai­ts of the no­ble fa­mi­ly.
