Backstage with the big names behind the event The Photographer, the Critic, the Architect. The capital letter is not an oversight when it reflects an absolute professional dimension, that of three personalities who have teamed up to produce a great exhibition of Italian photography, which presents the entire works of Giovanni Gastel on the occasion of his 40 years in the business. Accomplices of the photographer, the art historian Germano Celant and the architect Piero Lissoni. Toughened up by his maternal education, the self- taught photographer who sold his first picture aged 17 still today treasures the comments of Celant, curator of his institutional exhibitions since 1997. His production has been pared down to the bone and presented in 32 photographic series. All speak of balance, irony, elegance. But there is also Gastel the experimenter, who looks to Dadaism and Surrealism. In comes Piero Lissoni. We chase after them to ask the designer how he worked inside the Palazzo. “... I lowered a system of theatrical wings, a labyrinth- like path, into the structure.” We are in the middle of the room, where the exhibition ends and the rigorous concept of the photographic sequences
