We are open
MUT, a space dedicated to contemporary art, is opening in the Mutina headquarters, a jewel designed by Angelo Mangiarotti. We get a preview Matteo Orsini is a passionate visionary. We’re in the Mutina headquarters in Fiorano Modenese for a preview of MUT, the new exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art, later to be presented to the public along with the new tile collections by Patricia Urquiola, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, and Raw Edges at CERSAIE. MUT has been created in one of the aisles of the showroom at our headquarters, a jewel of a building designed by Angelo Mangiarotti in the 1970s. “It was in a state of semi- abandon: we bought it in 2008 and carried out a respectful restoration,” explains the CEO. “The project included plans for MUT, the space that will host about 3 exhibitions a year: first a selection of 24 works from the Orsini collection, to be followed by different exhibition projects; then ‘ This is not a prize’, which, rather than simply being an award, offers support for the personal work of an artist. And finally, Dialogue, an opportunity for creative encounters to experiment with ceramics,” explains the curator, Sarah Cosulich. MUT’s inaugural exhibition, ‘ Think of this as a Window’, displays works by ‘ big’ artists such as Cindy Sherman, Fischli/ Weiss and Marisa Merz among others, as well as young artists on whom Orsini is taking a punt. “The title comes from a neon work by Cerith Wyn Evans, on display here. I found it the perfect metaphor for the idea for this space: an invitation to see what lies beyond,” continues Cosulich. And the future definitely sees a long way ahead.
