● Columbus Yachts - Tomahawk
Columbus Yachts’ new project - 52 metre- Tomahawk developed with Marco Casali is a lovely looking Explorer model featuring a unique design containing technology and technical solutions derived from Gruppo Palumbo’s naval experience. Tomahawk is the name given to a new line of custom built Explorer models ranging from 40 to 100 metres, from which this first 52 metre example with a Gross tonnage of 499 GT.THE name attributed to the line comes from the yacht’s special bow shape which recalls the shape of the much celebrated weapon wielded by native Americans. Marco Casali interpreted the given blade shape faithfully to best suit its purpose – to pierce through head seas. The rest of the hull also in steel and thanks to Gruppo Palumbo’s notable experience in building military craft and ships of the kind it is capable of taking on extreme weather conditions. “basically Tomahawk has been conceived to be a very comforta- ble yacht inside of a great ship” is how designer Marco Casali put it. “The 75 square metre owner cabin is situated in the bow section with forward facing window like ports facing a 21 square metre terrace equipped with a table, sun pads and a hydro-massage tub. The whole area offers a 180° panoramic view and total privacy.
The area reserved to guests is situated along the lower deck connecting to the gym, wellness area and beach club with glazed panelling. Guests and owner can access the beach area directly, the pool and sea without having to walk through the saloon and living room areas. A wet bar and exclusive dining area situated in the bow section comprises a movie theatre/karaoke. The crew’s quarters too are larger than custom, while privileging quality of space as well”. As for the decor of the interiors Marco Casali admits he was attracted by the wonder world descriptions mentioned in Jules Verne’s adventure tales. Conceived to brave the seven seas. This 52 metre version of Tomahawk considering the number of decks, hangars and closed store keeping cellars it possesses, there’s also plenty of space in which to stow any kind of water toy, tenders, two 12 metre ones, 4 jet skis, and a submarine. Moreover between the garage below and the bow section there’s additional room for other water craft and gear. The beach club spreads over three decks for a total of 200 square metres, in addition to a 6x2.50 metre pool and a personalised sun bathing area with free standing furniture, there is still space
enough to host a considerable area for games or a basketball court. An MCA compliant helipad is also available on request.
