Strolling along the Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous area, the feeling perceived is in more ways than one similar to the one perceived at the Monaco Yacht Show. Yes, they’re two events that based on a first impression would seem scarcely comparable. The Monaco one held in Port Hercule attracts shipyards from all over the world and has by now collected a longstanding tradition, while the one in Tuscany is only at its second edition and its ranking in the international Yacht Show scene is still to be defined while possessing ample margins in which to grow. And yet comparing them is not so rash. For the yachting world, both these venues represent the yachting elite in their own special ways. Monaco, for its lifestyle which attracts much of the jet-set and is still a ‘must see, be seen’ place where at least once in a life time all yacht owners want to sail into and be part of luxury yachting’s elite. Viareggio, with its famous via Coppino is where yachting began in Italy, for scores of years it has been HQ to many a shipyard that has launched yachting in this wonderful area with some truly magnificent yachts that today their proud owners berth in Monaco’s Port Hercule. Furthermore, both events offer b2b possibilities and are two considerable show cases for large yacht shipyards and owners, that count on and are backed up, by an organization which clearly meets their expectations. Naturally there are some who will object to the number of visitors present at the Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous but, as we’ve already said in the editorial of Nautica’s May edition, it is not so much the quantity that makes the difference but the quality.
