FOR FANS OF OPERA, BALLET AND SYMPHONY
The 95th Arena Opera Festival treats fans of music to 48 evenings of pure entertainment at the largest open-air amphitheatre in the world. The Festival kicked off on Friday 23 June with Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘Nabucco’. This was followed on 24 June by ‘Aida’ which was staged for 8 nights, with repeat performances scheduled for 9 nights from 28 July onwards. The first performance of Verdi’s
‘Rigoletto’ was staged on 1 July for 5 nights and was followed, on 8 July, by 6 performances of Giacomo Puccini’s ‘Madama Butterfly’, based on the original set design by Franco Zeffirelli. The last opera of the season will be Puccini’s ‘Tosca’, which will run from 5 to 25 August with 5 performances. On 17 July, audiences were treated to the special first evening of the eagerly-awaited ‘Roberto Bolle and Friends’ gala. On 21 July, renowned Italian tenor Placido Domingo has performed some of the world’s best-loved Spanish arias during his ‘Antología de la Zarzuela’ evening. The Festival ends on the evening of 15 August with a unique rendition of ‘Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony’.
