The 95th Arena Opera Fes­ti­val treats fans of mu­sic to 48 evenings of pure en­ter­tain­ment at the largest open-air am­phithe­atre in the world. The Fes­ti­val kicked off on Fri­day 23 June with Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘Nabucco’. This was fol­lowed on 24 June by ‘Aida’ which was staged for 8 nights, with re­peat per­for­mances sched­uled for 9 nights from 28 July on­wards. The first per­for­mance of Verdi’s

‘Rigo­letto’ was staged on 1 July for 5 nights and was fol­lowed, on 8 July, by 6 per­for­mances of Gi­a­como Puc­cini’s ‘Madama But­ter­fly’, based on the orig­i­nal set de­sign by Franco Zef­firelli. The last opera of the sea­son will be Puc­cini’s ‘Tosca’, which will run from 5 to 25 Au­gust with 5 per­for­mances. On 17 July, au­di­ences were treated to the spe­cial first evening of the ea­gerly-awaited ‘Roberto Bolle and Friends’ gala. On 21 July, renowned Ital­ian tenor Placido Domingo has per­formed some of the world’s best-loved Span­ish arias dur­ing his ‘An­tología de la Zarzuela’ evening. The Fes­ti­val ends on the evening of 15 Au­gust with a unique ren­di­tion of ‘Beethoven’s Ninth Sym­phony’.
