Imagine combining a stroll through one of the most beautiful gardens in Milan with a little culture and an appetizing snack, immersed in a fairytale-like atmosphere. Villa Reale offers this and more!
Discover the dreamlike atmosphere of Villa Reale, home to Milan's Gallery of Modern Art and the new LùBar
In Villa Reale's English garden – an authentic oasis of peace – you'll find one of the most prestigious masterpieces of Neo-classical Lombard architecture. Shrouded in an aura of discreet elegance, the Villa's 18th-century rooms blend harmoniously with the more than 4,000 works (paintings and sculptures) comprising the permanent collection of GAM-Milan's Gallery of Modern Art. The display of works featured on its first and second floors, ranging from Neo-classicism to Romanticism and Symbolist art, include masterpieces by artists like Boccioni, Modigliani, ToulouseLautrec, Manet, Picasso and Van Gogh. The gallery's permanent collection is enhanced by temporary exhibitions, which are hosted on the ground floor. Please note that visitors accessing GAM an hour before closing time will be granted free admission. After visiting the gallery, you can enjoy a regenerating aperitivo in Villa Reale's ancient orangerie, at LùBar, a new Milanese locale for connoisseurs of taste. Originally conceived as an itinerant food vending operation by siblings Lucrezia, Lucilla and Ludovico Bonaccorsi, LùBar has now been transformed into a bistro offering a mouthwatering selection of Sicilian specialties. Bite-size ‘arancini' (fried rice balls) and ‘panelle' (Sicilian fritters) make an ideal accompaniment to the cocktails served at Happy hour, which lasts until 7.30pm (no reservations accepted). In addition to cocktails, the venue offers a series of unique day-long dining options, starting at 8am and ending at midnight. A great place for a quick, healthy breakfast, an informal lunch, a picturesque dinner and everything in-between, LùBar is the new go-to destination for those in search of a sophisticated, romantic ambience. >> Via Palestro, 16. M1 Palestro GAM and LùBar are both closed on Monday. www.gam-milano.com www.lubarstreetfood.com
