An ex­hi­bi­tion ded­i­cated to Joachim Murat mark­ing the end of the 200- year reign of the French gov­ern­ment and the death of Murat, the French cav­alry leader who was one of Napoleon’s most cel­e­brated mar­shals and who, as king of Naples ( 1808– 15), lent stim­u­lus to Ital­ian na­tion­al­ism. In ad­di­tion to a vast dis­play of maps, the ex­hi­bi­tion also show­cases works from pri­vate col­lec­tions, in­clud­ing an of­fi­cial por­trait by Ger­ard in which Murat wears a pre­cious col­lar, also on dis­play, fea­tur­ing the sym­bols of the king­dom.
