Pizza tri­umphs in Cam­pa­nia

Ac­cord­ing to Gam­bero Rosso, the best Ital­ian pizze­rias are in Naples and, gen­er­ally speak­ing, in Cam­pa­nia. Our re­gion boasts the high­est num­ber of ‘ Tre Spic­chi’ (‘ Three Slices’), with a to­tal to 12 this year.

Ac­cord­ing to the Gam­bero Rosso’s ‘ Pizzerie d’Italia 2016’, the guide pub­lished this year in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Con­sorzio Tutela vino Bar­dolino Doc, Cam­pa­nia was ranked as the num­ber 1 pizza- mak­ing re­gion in Italy, earn­ing as many as 12 ‘ Tre Spic­chi’ ( Three Slices), 8 of which were awarded to Naples, fol­lowed by Tus­cany which came in at sec­ond place with only 5 ‘ Tre Spic­chi’. The eight best Neapoli­tan pizze­rias are Da At­tilio alla Pig­nasecca, Trat­to­ria Fresco, La No­tizia, O’ Piz­za­iuolo Guglielmo Vuolo, Sor­billo and Starita, while, in the province, Gam­bero Rosso rat­ings were awarded to Villa Gio­vanna, in Ot­ta­viano, Era Ora, in Palma Cam­pa­nia, Pizze­ria Salvo da Tre Gen­er­azioni, in San Gior­gio a Cre­mano and Palazzo Vialdo, in Torre del Greco. Cam­pa­nia re­ceived the spe­cial ‘ Dough Mas­ters’ award which went to Ciro Salvo, of pizze­ria 50 Kalò in Naples, while the ‘ Pizza of the Year Awardì was won by the ‘ Pepe in Grani’ pizze­ria lo­cated in Ca­iazzo, in the province of Caserta. Last but not least the best gluten- free pizze­ria, cre­ated es­pe­cially for glutenin­tol­er­ant in­di­vid­u­als, went to Marco Amoriello, of the “Il Guappo” pizze­ria in Moiano, in the province of Ben­evento.
