CERTOSA DI SAN MARTINO - Lying atop a hill in the Vomero district, the former monastery dominates the entire Gulf of Naples. Founded in 1325 by Charles of Anjou, Duke of Calabria, over the centuries the Charter House was enriched by a number of impressive artefacts including marbles, frescoes, sculptures, furnishings and paintings. A national monument since 1866, it houses the National Museum of San Martino, featuring a large display of “presepi” or nativity scenes by masters of the Neapolitan school. Make sure to visit its threetiered gardens and cloisters, the largest of which is considered to be one of the finest in Italy. Open Thurs- Tues 8.30am- 6.30pm – Largo S. Martino, 5 – T:
