Italy’s most im­por­tant ‘gelato’ fes­ti­val is cur­rently cel­e­brat­ing its sev­enth an­niver­sary. An itin­er­ant event that will make nine stopovers across Europe, in­clud­ing Naples

The most im­por­tant Ital­ian ice cream fes­ti­val is com­ing to Naples. This itin­er­ant event which tours Europe and Italy for 5 months ev­ery year, stop­ping in 9 dif­fer­ent cities, has been around for seven years. Its hall­mark fea­ture are three food trucks: an ice cream lab­o­ra­tory, an event space and a tast­ing area. In ev­ery city, the best ice cream mak­ers in the re­gion will be of­fer­ing new flavours, cre­ated es­pe­cially for the event in the hopes of win­ning the ti­tle of best Ital­ian ice cream, which will be an­nounced dur­ing the last leg of the Fes­ti­val. In ad­di­tion to these, 10 new and unique non con­tend­ing flavours will be pre­sented cour­tesy of the fes­ti­val’s spon­sors. Each day, the fes­ti­val will host nu­mer­ous gas­tro­nomic events: starred chefs, mas­ter ice cream mak­ers and the most pres­ti­gious names in the busi­ness will in­form the pub­lic about the fan­tas­tic world of Ital­ian ice cream, its tra­di­tions, its se­crets and what makes it so unique and cov­eted the world over. Fol­low­ing stopovers in in Florence, Parma and Rome, the Gelato Fes­ti­val will reach Naples where it will be held from 19 to 22 May, sub­se­quently re­sum­ing its jour­ney to travel to Turin, Mi­lan, Lon­don and Va­len­cia, after which it will once again re­turn to Florence at the be­gin­ning of Septem­ber for the fi­nal leg of the tour. To sam­ple all the flavours and vote for your favourite, all you have to do is to buy a ‘Gelato Card’ in ad­vance from the web­site or di­rectly on-site. The flavours pre­sented by the spon­sors in Naples will in­clude: Pernig­otti, with Santo Domingo Dark Cho­co­late, Ecuador Dark cho­co­late, Perù Dark cho­co­late, Gran­ca­cao São Tomé and Strac­ciatella Cuba; Nutella, based on the recipe by Fer­rero; Buon­tal­enti, a cream and vanilla-based spe­ci­aity; Cook­ies, cook­ieflavoured ar­ti­sanal gelato, a per­fect blend of the creami­ness of ice-cream and a mouth wa­ter­ing cream of cho­co­late and ha­zlenuts in­fused with crunchy bits of short­bread.
