Pizza, food and sol­i­dar­ity all fea­ture in an event ded­i­cated to Cam­pa­nia’s enogas­tro­mic of­fer­ings and to a pro­fes­sion that has be­come a sym­bol of Neapoli­tan cul­ture

How to en­joy your stay in Naples and on the Coast & Is­lands

The largest open-air pizze­ria in Cam­pa­nia over­look­ing the Gulf of Naples! Dur­ing the first ten days of the month, the third edi­tion of “The Space, pizza and food vil­lage” will be held at Torre del Greco. This event be­gan as a way of bring­ing pres­tige to the pro­fes­sion of the “piz­zaiolo”, a folk­loric sym­bol of Neapoli­tan cul­ture; this year the event ex­tends its scope to en­com­pass all oc­cu­pa­tions re­volv­ing around the world of gourmet food. Vis­i­tors are in­vited to par­tic­i­pate in a jour­ney tar­geted at re­dis­cov­er­ing the de­lights of Ital­ian culi­nary tra­di­tions amidst aro­mas, fra­grances and the ar­ti­sanal spe­cial­i­ties of Cam­pa­nia’s enogas­tro­nomic scene. The ex­hi­bi­tion space, ex­tend­ing over a sur­face area of ap­prox­i­mately one kilo­me­tre, fea­tures four themed ar­eas as­so­ci­ated with food: a pizze­ria area, in­clud­ing ten pizze­rias, nine with wood­burn­ing ovens and one with fry­ers, for fried pizza and other fried spe­cial­i­ties; a bar­beque area, fea­tur­ing the area’s char­ac­ter­is­tic bar­beque trucks known as Car BQ; a street food area and an area ded­i­cated to tra­di­tional cui­sine. The en­tire space is in­ter­spersed with bars and pas­tic­cerie, per­for­mance ar­eas and even an in­ter­ac­tive mu­seum ded­i­cated to pizza, where vis­i­tors will have a chance to learn more about the three-thou­sand-year-old his­tory of this fab­u­lous Neapoli­tan cre­ation. The event is not just about pizza but also about sol­i­dar­ity. Ev­ery evening, at the ‘Casa Ros­sopo­modoro for UNICEF’ area, well-known chefs will host cook­ing and pizza-mak­ing classes (at 7pm and at 8.30pm), the pro­ceeds of which will go to­wards sup­port­ing UNICEF projects against world-wide mal­nu­tri­tion. The Space serves as an op­por­tu­nity to learn that cui­sine is not sim­ply the an­swer to a daily need, but rather a creative pro­ject that en­ables peo­ple to ex­per­i­ment with dif­fer­ent styles and ap­proaches to eat­ing. The beauty of the Tor­rese coast­line will act as a stun­ning back­drop to an ar­ray of sur­prises, in­clud­ing a pa­rade of plea­sure craft emit­ting smoke sig­nals in the shape of the Ital­ian tri­colour flag for the open­ing cer­e­mony.
