ASK YOUR CONCIERGE

Where Naples Coast & Islands - - ESSENTIALS - FOR ANY REQUIREMENT OR WISH THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE, ASK YOUR CONCIERGE! www.lechiavidorocampania.org

An interview with Giuseppe Caso, Chief Concierge of the Grand Hotel San Pietro in Positano and a member of the Golden Keys Association of Hotel Concierges in Campania.

What made you choose the career of a hotel concierge?

I am the son of farmers and I wanted a better job. I started working abroad in the 1970s when I was still a student at a hotel school. I returned to Italy in the 1980s and began working as a night porter. I have been on the staff of the San Pietro hotel in Positano for the past 36 years.

What is the strangest request that you have ever received from a client?

After departing, a Swiss guest realized that she had forgotten her jewelry at the hotel. I had to arrange for a driver to take them to her. This sort of thing doesn’t happen often. Guests come to our hotel to relax and enjoy the sea. They are not particularly demanding and their request are mostly easy to satisfy.

Who are your favourite tourists?

The Americans: they’re easier to look after. Once they trust you they are happy to follow any suggestions that you might have.

In 2014, the Golden Keys Association of Campania named you concierge of the year!

It was totally unexpected and it made me very happy. I'm very reserved sort of person, but when I’m behind the reception desk I feel totally at home. When our clients leave the hotel with tears in their eyes because they’ve had such a good time with us… It makes you feel like flying.
