PICASSO: THE MEDITERRANEAN YEARS
From August 26, 2017, through January 7, 2018, the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice presents the exhibition PICASSO. On the Beach curated by Luca Massimo Barbero. The exhibition is a collaboration with the Musée Picasso of Paris, and focuses on one of Peggy Guggenheim's favorite works of art, Picasso's ‘On the Beach' (La Baignade, 1937) as well as two other paintings, ten drawings and a sculpture, all works completed by Pablo Picasso between February and December 1937. The show is part of a program of seminars, publications, studies, and exhibitions tied to the three-year Picasso-Méditerranée project whose aim is to explore and shed new light on the connections the Spanish artist had with the Mediterranean, which played an important role in his artistic career: from his roots in Spain to his life in France, and his relationships with artists and art forms that had the Mediterranean as their frame of reference.
