PICASSO: THE ME­DI­TER­RA­NEAN YEARS

From Au­gu­st 26, 2017, through Ja­nua­ry 7, 2018, the Peg­gy Gug­ge­n­heim Col­lec­tion in Ve­ni­ce pre­sen­ts the ex­hi­bi­tion PICASSO. On the Bea­ch cu­ra­ted by Lu­ca Mas­si­mo Bar­be­ro. The ex­hi­bi­tion is a col­la­bo­ra­tion with the Mu­sée Picasso of Pa­ris, and fo­cu­ses on one of Peg­gy Gug­ge­n­heim's fa­vo­ri­te works of art, Picasso's ‘On the Bea­ch' (La Bai­gna­de, 1937) as well as two other pain­tings, ten dra­wings and a sculp­tu­re, all works com­ple­ted by Pa­blo Picasso bet­ween Fe­brua­ry and De­cem­ber 1937. The show is part of a pro­gram of se­mi­nars, pu­bli­ca­tions, stu­dies, and ex­hi­bi­tions tied to the th­ree-year Picasso-Mé­di­ter­ra­née pro­ject who­se aim is to ex­plo­re and shed new light on the con­nec­tions the Spa­ni­sh ar­ti­st had with the Me­di­ter­ra­nean, whi­ch played an im­por­tant ro­le in his ar­ti­stic ca­reer: from his roo­ts in Spain to his li­fe in Fran­ce, and his re­la­tion­ships with ar­tists and art forms that had the Me­di­ter­ra­nean as their fra­me of re­fe­ren­ce.
