The 74th In­ter­na­tio­nal Film Fe­sti­val, the on­ly thing hot­ter than a Lido bea­ch in Au­gu­st, kicks off on 30 Au­gu­st, at­trac­ting stars of the ci­ne­ma and hor­des of fans, film buffs and on­loo­kers. This year’s com­pe­ti­tion will see a li­ne-up of 20 world pre­mie­re fea­tu­re films con­ten­ding ei­ther for a Gol­den or Sil­ver Lion award. The­se co­ve­ted sta­tues, re­pli­ca­ting the sym­bol of Ve­ni­ce - the win­ged lion - are awar­ded re­spec­ti­ve­ly by an in­ter­na­tio­nal ju­ry for the best film and the best di­rec­tor.

Among the in­no­va­tions an­noun­ced, this year’s fe­sti­val will see an unu­sual ro­le re­ver­sal. For the fir­st ti­me in Ve­ni­ce, a pa­tron ra­ther than a pa­tro­ness has been cho­sen to ho­st the fe­sti­val and, af­ter an 11-year string of ma­le pre­si­den­ts, this year, the po­si­tion will be held by a wo­man. Ac­tor Ales­san­dro Bor­ghi will ho­st the ope­ning and clo­sing even­ts of the 74th Ve­ni­ce In­ter­na­tio­nal Film Fe­sti­val 2017, whi­le Ame­ri­can ac­tress An­net­te Be­ning, a four-ti­me Oscar no­mi­nee (The Grif­ters, 1991; Ame­ri­can beau­ty, 1999; Being Ju­lia,2004 and The Kids Are All Right, 2010), has been na­med Pre­si­dent of the ju­ry.­bien­na­­ne­ma
