LA FENICE, THE STAGE OF VENICE
This year, Venice's famous opera house is once again offering an impressive program of opera, classical music and ballet. Where® brings you the pick of this season's best offerings.
The Opera & Ballet Season kicks off on 24 November with Giuseppe Verdi's A Masked Ball, conducted by Korean maestro Myung-Whun Chung. This will be followed by the first modern-day performance of Pasquale’s
Metamorphoses by Spontini; The Merry Widow by Lehár, directed by Damiano Michielett ; Orlando Furioso by Vivaldi; Norma starring Mariella Devia; La Bohème by Puccini conducted by Chung; the Italian premiere of
Richard III by Giorgio Battistelli and the Rossini Project marking the 150th anniversary of the composer's death, with performances of Semiramide, Il
signor Bruschino and The Barber of Seville. The opera season will end with revivals of Verdi's La Traviata featuring a debut performance by rising opera star and soprano Nadine Sierra in the role of Violetta, Puccini's
Madama Butterfly and Donizetti's The Elixir of Love.
La Fenice's ballet program for the upcoming season includes a performance by the Royal Ballet of Flanders with choreography by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Jeroen Verbruggen, the Italian premiere of One Man
Show by Baryshnikov, and a gala of famous ballets.
Schubert’s Legacy is the title of the Concert Season. Scheduled from 3 November 2017 to 8 July 2018, the program will include twelve concerts and nine repeat performances. The season will kick off with an inaugural concert conducted by Donato Renzetti, followed by Myung-Whun
Chung who conducts the Christmas Concert commemorating the 450th anniversary of the birth of Claudio Monteverdi featuring the soloists of the Marciana Chapel conducted by Marco Gemmani, and then performances conducted by Daniele Rustioni, Claudio Marino Moretti and the Chorus of Teatro La Fenice, Elio Boncompagni, Yuri Temirkanov, Diego Fasolis, Thomas Adès, Antonello Manacorda, Francesco Lanzillotta and Henrik Nánási.
> Myung-Whun Chung will conduct the 15th edition of the New Year's Eve Concert, starring tenor Francesco Meli. Concert dates include 28, 29,30 and 31 December 2017 and 1 January 2018.
