Tho­se who hap­pen to be in Ve­ni­ce du­ring the ‘Fe­sta del­la

Ma­don­na del­la Sa­lu­te' (in­sti­tu­ted by the Re­pu­blic of Ve­ni­ce in 1630) will find them­sel­ves im­mer­sed in an at­mo­sphe­re of pro­found fol­klo­ri­stic and re­li­gious de­vo­tion. Ea­ch year, to mark the oc­ca­sion, a tem­po­ra­ry brid­ge, re­sting on bar­ges, is set up. The brid­ge cros­ses over the Grand Canal and con­nec­ts the area of San Moi­sè and San­ta Maria del Gi­glio to the Ba­si­li­ca de­si­gned by Lon­ghe­na, to al­low tho­se par­ti­ci­pa­ting in the pro­ces­sion to ac­cess the ma­je­stic chur­ch of the Ma­don­na del­la Sa­lu­te. A per­fect meld of re­li­gion and fol­klo­re, the event is en­han­ced by the pre­sen­ce of ven­dors sel­ling lo­cal sweet trea­ts and sou­ve­nirs.
