Tom Laing takes it to the streets

Daily Observer (Jamaica) - - SPLASH - BY KEVIN JACKSON

NEW York-based singer Tom Laing is preparing to release his first album, Street Teacher, in the first quarter of 2019.

The 14-song project has been in the making for some time. Laing believes it will hit the right note with listeners.

“The album has a number of great songs, and I am confident that it’s going to be a huge success. I worked with some of the best musicians on this project and we took a very serious approach to the production because we want it to become one of the top albums in reggae music,” he said.

Laing is from Trench Town, an area that has produced a number of great artistes, including singers Alton Ellis and Delroy Wilson. He hopes to continue that legacy.

“People are dying to hear some authentic reggae music, and that’s what Street Teacher is all about. There are no computerised rhythms on this album because we decided to take the old-fashioned route. We went into the studio with world-class musicians and created a great album,” Laing explained.

The title track is the lead single. It is due for release through VP PAL Music in December.

Laing is known for songs such as Belly of The Beast and Front Door.
