Alleged soldier killer held in Miami
INVESTIGATORS PROBING the September 2 fatal shooting of Jamaica Defence Force Lance Corporal Ricardo Bennett have tracked one of those suspected of his killing to the United States where he had fled to avoid capture.
But Miami, Florida was not far enough for 36-year-old Dwayne Bedasse, who was tracked down by the investigators and arrested four days after the killing of the soldier. Bedasse was returned to Jamaica the following day and charged.
Another suspect, 25-year-old Sheldon Brown, otherwise called ‘English’, a deportee of Somerset Avenue, Kingston 16, who was pointed out in an identification parade, has also been arrested in connection with the murder.
Both have been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and robbery with aggravation.
A third suspect is to face an identification parade at a later date.
Bennett was shot about 10 p.m. at a barber shop on HalfWay Tree Road in St Andrew, when armed men entered the establishment and opened fire at him. He returned fire hitting one of his attackers. Both the soldier and the attacker died on the spot.
