Jamaican engineers hailed

Jamaica Gleaner - - INTERNATIONAL NEWS -

Jamaica’s engineers are being hailed for their role in the successful implementation of the Government’s economic growth agenda.

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Dr Horace Chang, said the work of engineers is integral to the development of appropriate infrastructure that can position the country to record the level of growth that translates into prosperity for all citizens.

He was speaking at the launch of Engineers’ Week 2016 by the Jamaica Institution of Engineers at The Knutsford Court Hotel in New Kingston on Monday.

Chang said the Government remains committed to forging partnerships with the professional group in developing more resilient communities and economies.

He said that incorporating disaster risk management into infrastructural projects is integral to the process.

“This calls for sustainable engineering, which improves the quality of life while preserving the quality of our natural resources. As a country, we have to recognise the importance of environmentally friendly yet sound infrastructure,” he pointed out.

Chang emphasised that “by working together, we can make our systems and economy resilient”.
