‘Tris­tan und Isolde’ to open The Met: Live in HD 2016-2017 sea­son

THE MET: Live in HD, the Metropoli­tan Opera’s award-win­ning series of high-def­i­ni­tion live cinema simul­casts, will be­gin its 11th sea­son on Oc­to­ber 8 with the 100th trans­mis­sion in series his­tory, with a new pro­duc­tion of Robert Wag­ner’s Tris­tan und Isolde, con­ducted by Sir Si­mon Rat­tle, di­rected by Mar­iusz Tre­lin­ski, and star­ring Nina Stemme – the world’s pre-em­i­nent Isolde.

To mark the oc­ca­sion, Palace Amuse­ment has part­nered with the Ja­maican-Ger­man So­ci­ety and The Gleaner to bring this opera by the dis­tin­guished Ger­man com­poser to the Ja­maican au­di­ence, in keep­ing with the cel­e­bra­tion of Ger­many Week.

Live in HD au­di­ences around the world will see 10 live per­for­mances from the Met’s 2016-17 sea­son, which cel­e­brates the com­pany’s 50th an­niver­sary at Lin­coln Cen­ter. This sea­son’s HD trans­mis­sions in­clude five new pro­duc­tions from the Met sea­son and three op­eras new to the series. The Met: Live in HD is the largest provider of al­ter­na­tive cinema con­tent in the world, with more than 20 mil­lion tick­ets sold over the first 10 years of the series. The series brings live Met per­for­mances to more than 2,000 movie theatres in 70 coun­tries around the world, in­clud­ing Ja­maica’s Carib 5.
