Rookie Muir logs dou­ble at North­lands

ED­MON­TON, On­tario (CMC): Ja­maican Shama­ree Muir con­tin­ued to make waves in his de­but in­ter­na­tional sea­son when he rode a dou­ble on the eight-race card at North­lands Park here on Satur­day. The 21year-old took race one over six fur­longs with 2-1 chance Live a Lit­tle be­fore fol­low­ing up in race eight over 6-1/2 fur­longs with vic­tory aboard 9-1 choice Long Time Don.

Muir, a two-time cham­pion ap­pren­tice back in his home­land, lies sixth on 33 wins in the sea­son due to wrap up on Oc­to­ber 22.

Five-time de­fend­ing cham­pion Rico Wal­cott, who won just once on the day’s card, tops the jock­eys stand­ings with 86, a whop­ping 40 clear of Trinida­dian Keis­han Bal­go­bin.

Ja­maican Dane Nel­son sits third on 45 wins with mul­ti­ple­time for­mer cham­pion Bar­ba­dian Quincy Welch one back in fourth.
