Secrets Resorts rewards scholars

Jamaica Gleaner - - NEWS -

MAINTAINING THEIR focus on impacting lives, the management of Secrets Resorts and Spas has once again awarded scholarships to six of their employees’ children.

The scholarships have an overall value of $300,000, with $50,000 disbursed to each child to assist with their educational pursuits.

For the past five years, the Montego Bay-based twin resort has been awarding a number of their staffs members’ children with scholarships on condition that they perform satisfactorily in their Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).

The employees collected the

scholarships on their children’s behalf during the resort’s recent staging of their Employee and Leader of the Quarter Medal Ceremony, where more than 30 staff members were presented with gifts.

The ceremony mirrored an Olympics-style gold, silver and bronze medal presentations. Employees and supervisors stood at a podium and were presented with certificates, gifts and the medals. The placements represented their level of performance over the past quarter.

Paulette Richards, Wendy McKay and Stephine Solomon said that the funds would be deposited in an investment instrument to assist with their children’s tertiary ambitions.

“I was confident my son had a good chance at being selected, but when this was confirmed my immediate reaction was, ‘Wow, I knew it!’ I feel good and my son is also happy. I’m very thankful to Secrets,” Richards noted.

It was a similar reaction from McKay: “My son needed a laptop

to do his schoolwork. When he found out he was selected, he said, ‘Mommy, finally, you’re going to get me a laptop’.” She said she was grateful to Secrets management for all they have been doing, and continue to do, for their staff.

Solomon is equally grateful to Secrets for extending their generosity to employees.

The ceremony was held under the theme: ‘Go for the Goal’ and

guest speaker Kingston-based attorney Emile Leiba’s address held the audience captive.

Leiba encouraged the employees to set short-, medium- and longterm goals and be driven and focused to achieve them.

“The best way to achieve this is to divide your long-term goal into a series of short-term goals. You are more likely to stick to an objective when it seems achievable,” he reasoned.
