Triple threat for Burberry

Jamaica Gleaner - - FLAIR -

BURN IT up! That’s exactly what the Saint models did when the latest collection from London’s Burberry was unveiled on September 19.

Saint boss Deiwght Peters could do cartwheels if he could, as not one, not two ... but a history-making three of his Jamaican models were featured on the runway of London’s top show for Fashionweek.

“The Burberry casting directors are super selective and deliver a stellar cast of models season after season. It is important to note that they commendably push for diversity in the model cast,” Peters explains.

In February, it was the Burberry’s runway that delivered another Jamaican model – first when NakiDepass (then just discovered by Peters) was booked for an exclusive debut among the world’s most successful models in her very first international assignment.

The Clarendon-born Depass, now an accounting student at the University of the West Indies, was catapulted to the head of the class walking for powerhouses Prada, Celine and Givenchy that same season.

This breakout season put Depass on the Top New Faces list of Models.com new faces for the February show season. The Edwin Allen alum had officially made her global fashion arrival. Depass was signed by Peters to Premier Models in London.

NEW FACE

As if there is no end to the flow of fashion stars from Saint International, another Saint breakout star appeared on the Christopher Bailey runway in London – Sanita Mattis. Another Clarendonian, she is now enjoying the fashion spotlight after making her international debut at Burberry. Mattis is signed to Elite Models EuropeLondon, Milan and Paris. The 17 year old just graduated from Central High in May Pen.

EXTRAORDINARY JONNY B

After his exclusive world debut at Louis Vuitton Men’s Collection in Paris this past June, it was clear the fashion powers had anointed Saint’s Jonny B a star. After all, this was history for a Jamaican male model to be so booked at the start of his career. Jonny rounded out the Saint trio on the Burberry fashion spectacle in London.

His appearance was special as this was another exclusive both for Jonny and for Saint. His entry into the high-octane world of high fashion was just July in Paris as an exclusive. Peters revealed that Jonny recently arrived in London to be photographed as the face of a world-renowned brand that he has so far refused to disclose.

This season, the Burberry show bore significance on many levels. First, the brand’s long-time creative director Christopher Bailey decided to apply the much-touted ‘See Now, Buy Now’ model-showing the fall collection now (as opposed to the usual Spring/Summer Collection) before the fall season actually starts. This meant he showed his men’s collection together with the women’s as another trend breaker.

The Saint train now rolls into Milan and stay tuned for more stunning breakthroughs.
