While there’s still time
As I consider the sudden and unfortunate passing of St George’s football captain Dominic James, who died while playing a Manning Cup match last week, my heart is full. He was only 18 years young and, as most would believe, had a promising life ahead of him. How do you say to his parents, teammates and coach that these things really do just happen? Rest well, young one. To the rest of you: do not take anything for granted. Live good, be happy, go for your goals while there’s still time.
Faith in humanity restored
Recently, THE STAR had reported that a Westmoreland student was turned away by administrators over failure to pay auxiliary fees. This comes after Minister Reid’s directive that all schools are to desist from charging the fees. The long and short of the story is that not only did the ministry intervene, but persons from the wider community began to outpour support, monetary and otherwise. This shows that good people are still out there, but more importantly: when in doubt, speak up and speak out.
By any other means necessary
I think somehow I have the tendency to deliver a lecture somewhere in this section so, here we go again (LOL). Now, I know most of you might seriously be contemplating your future after high school, and hopefully, that surrounds higher learning. Word of advice: try your best to avoid students’ loan. It is not an easy way out and trust me, later in life you will regret it. Employment is scarce and times will get harder; the last thing you’ll need is to be paying back, hypothetically speaking, three times what your degree costs. Snatch that degree but please, by any other means necessary.
‘Rob and Chyna’ for the win
The future Mr and Mrs Kardashian have premiered their new reality series, Rob and Chyna, and just so you know – it is all that! The series already seems to mirror very little of the somewhat parent show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. For one, Chyna is definitely not like Kim, Kourtney or Khloe, and she makes no apologies about that. Her relationship with Rob is as unconventional and as roller coaster-y as it gets but hey, is there a true love story that isn’t? With that said, who’s watching next week’s episode with me??
