Mid-week triple for Nelson

ED­MON­TON, Canada (CM): JA­MAICAN DANE Nelson reeled off an im­pres­sive triple at North­land Park on Wed­nes­day to climb back into se­cond place in the jock­eys stand­ings.

Rid­ing on the seven-race, mid-week card, the three-time for­mer Ja­maica cham­pion rider logged vic­to­ries in race two with fa­vorite Misty Do It and in race three with 5-1 chance Wine Stock be­fore wrap­ping up with suc­cess in race seven aboard 3-1 chance On a Quest.

With the haul, Nelson over­took Trinida­dian Keis­han Bal­go­bin to re­claim se­cond spot in the stand­ings with 48 wins. Bal­go­bin is one be­hind in third, with mul­ti­ple-time for­mer North­land cham­pion Quincy Welch ly­ing fourth on 44 wins.

Five-time de­fend­ing cham­pion Rico Walcott tops the stand­ings with 86 wins in the sea­son which signs off on Oc­to­ber 22.

a six-fur­long trip when he made all the run­ning with brown filly Misty Do It to trounce the twoyear-olds by four lengths.

In race three over 1300 me­tres, Nelson pro­duced another gate-to-wire ef­fort with Wine Stock to dis­pose of the three­year-old and up­wards by five lengths. He and the six-year-old bay geld­ing du­elled with Bear’s Re­al­ity through the quar­ter be­fore get­ting clear en­ter­ing the stretch and dom­i­nat­ing the run through the lane.

Nelson com­pleted his triple by guid­ing four-year-old chestnut geld­ing On a Quest to a nar­row win over the three-year-old and up­wards in a six-fur­long trip.

The pair stalked pace-set­ter Ar­tie in the Park, rid­den by Walcott, be­fore bid­ding in the stretch and nip­ping their ri­val on a head bob at the wire.

Young Ja­maican Shama­ree Muir was also suc­cess­ful on the day’s card, win­ning race five over six fur­longs with 3-1 bet Smilea­gain­pana.
