8 ar­rested for lot­tery scam­ming

FOUR PER­SONS were de­tained by mem­bers of the Area One Lot­tery Scam Task Force dur­ing predawn op­er­a­tions in the Wil­liams­field area of Hamp­ton, St James, yes­ter­day. Four others were ar­rested on Thurs­day in the Glen­de­von area.

Re­ports are that at about 5 a.m., the in­di­vid­u­als, which in­clude two men and two women, were taken into cus­tody as the Area One Lot­tery Scam Task Force car­ried out in­ves­ti­ga­tions re­lat­ing to lot­tery scam­ming and other fi­nan­cial crimes in the area. A BMW X6 was also seized dur­ing the raid.

This lat­est op­er­a­tion is among sev­eral be­ing car­ried out by law­men in the parish, which has been plagued by a surge of crime and vi­o­lence in re­cent months. It is also on the heels of yes­ter­day’s ar­rest of four in­di­vid­u­als in Long Wall, Glen­de­von, for their sus­pected in­volve­ment in the il­licit lot­tery scam. The de­tainees, two males and two fe­males, were ar­rested and sev­eral elec­tronic de­vices seized. Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice Dr Carl Wil­liams re­cently re-established the Lot­tery Scam Task Force in St James to fur­ther tackle lot­teryscam­ming ac­tiv­i­ties within Area One.
