WHEN IT comes to food, Ja­maicans love it ‘nuff’. Por­tion was not a pop­u­lar phrase as it is to­day. But still, not many eater­ies pay keen at­ten­tion to serv­ing size, but GymsKitchen is about to change that.

Lo­cated lit­er­ally next to a gym on Dun­robin Av­enue, coowner of the es­tab­lish­ment Ke­ne­sha Miller told Food that she opened a lit­tle over a year ago. See­ing a gap that needed to be filled, she told Food, “In Ja­maica, per­sons just eat what­ever they feel like, with no limit on the amount of calo­ries they con­sume. So it is quite nat­u­ral for per­sons to go into a restau­rant and or­der three boiled dumplings, two fin­gers of ba­nana and a slice of potato along with their pro­tein.”

She con­tin­ued, “At GymsKitchen, we take the has­sle out of what to eat with the two cat­e­gories of food — post-work­out or an any­time meal. In other words, you have

to earn your calo­ries,” said Miller with a smile.

The post-work­out dish is to be eaten af­ter the most ac­tive part of your day as it con­tains the most car­bo­hy­drates. While the any­time dish re­places car­bo­hy­drates with good fats such as pear, nuts and seeds.

RE­MINDERS

And just in case you were not aware of the por­tions and felt like you should get more, the sign is promi­nently dis­played at the front of the build­ing as the per­fect re­minder.

Not one to count calo­ries? GymsKitchen makes it easy and with their de­li­cious and wide ar­ray at dishes they are sure you wont’ mind.

The spinach stuffed chicken breast served with sweet pota­toes and veg­eta­bles was noth­ing short of scrump­tious, and sur­pris­ingly fill­ing. Served with a blended fruit punch, it was the com­ple­ment to a per­fectly bal­anced meal, per­fect for af­ter a work­out.

Open Mon­days to Thurs­days 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fri­days 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Satur­days 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., pa­trons are not lim­ited to take­out. De­liv­ery as well as dine-in op­tions are of­fered.
