Base­ball/softball cer­ti­fi­ca­tion

Coaches in Port­more and the cor­po­rate area were cer­ti­fied dur­ing a joint ven­ture coach­ing course in softball/base­ball by the Ja­maica Base­ball As­so­ci­a­tion and the Ja­maica Am­a­teur Softball As­so­ci­a­tion and So­cana Elite, a Cana­dian-based coach­ing duo of Candice Stephens and Court­ney Auger, at the As­cot Pri­mary School in Port­more, re­cently.

Stephens is an in­ter­na­tional pitcher for Canada and she pos­sesses seven vari­a­tions of pitches, while Auger is an in­ter­na­tional bat­ter and catcher for South Africa and is ranked 18th in World softball.

Both play­ers suited up for Strath­more Magic, among other teams.

The coaches were given prac­ti­cal and the­o­ret­i­cal as­sign­ments, in­clud­ing teach­ing skills and rules of the games to chil­dren and how to in­still dis­ci­pline and proper con­duct for bud­ding play­ers.

Other in­for­ma­tion shared in­cluded set­ting up the bat­ting line-up and field place­ments.
