Coaches in Portmore and the corporate area were certified during a joint venture coaching course in softball/baseball by the Jamaica Baseball Association and the Jamaica Amateur Softball Association and Socana Elite, a Canadian-based coaching duo of Candice Stephens and Courtney Auger, at the Ascot Primary School in Portmore, recently.
Stephens is an international pitcher for Canada and she possesses seven variations of pitches, while Auger is an international batter and catcher for South Africa and is ranked 18th in World softball.
Both players suited up for Strathmore Magic, among other teams.
The coaches were given practical and theoretical assignments, including teaching skills and rules of the games to children and how to instill discipline and proper conduct for budding players.
Other information shared included setting up the batting line-up and field placements.
