‘Jamaica Moves’ details to be announced

Jamaica Gleaner - - PUBLIC AUCTION SALE -

Minister of Health Dr Christopher Tufton says details of the exercise programme ‘Jamaica Moves’ will be announced shortly.

The initiative is part of measures to combat noncommunicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cancers.

“You will hear more about it in the months to come, but it’s all about getting Jamaicans even just to walk more,” Tufton said.

He was speaking after participating in the Usain Bolt Foundation and Jamaica National Foundation-sponsored Heroes in Action Run/Walk in Falmouth, Trelawny, on Sunday.

The campaign will promote, educate and develop programmes to get Jamaicans moving. Traditional and nontraditional media will be utilised in transmitting the message.

Meanwhile, Tufton endorsed the Heroes in Action Run/Walk, stating that it forms part of ongoing efforts to improve the health of Jamaicans by getting them involved in more physical activities.
