A breath of fresh air

Jamaica Gleaner - - OPINION & COMMENTARY -

THE EDITOR, Sir: SO OFTEN, at home or abroad, I have declared my pride in being Jamaican, in spite of some of the negative aspects displayed by a few citizens.

On Wednesday, while listening to Power106 FM,I was forcefully reminded of why I am so proud and still get chills listening to our National Anthem.

The discussion between the minister of education, Senator Ruel Reid, and the opposition spokesman for education, Ronald Thwaites, was so uplifting, it made my head swell with pride. But, then I stopped to wonder why this very civilised interaction isn’t evident otherwise across the political divide.

Such a breath of fresh air! It would be good if this example could be emulated across this beautiful land of ours. Can we dare to hope? SONIA KING, JP
