Bio-Tech se­lected for IDB in­no­va­tion award

THE IN­TER-AMER­I­CAN De­vel­op­ment Bank (IDB) says a Ja­maican firm is among three in­sti­tu­tions from Latin Amer­ica and the Caribbean to win the In­ter-Amer­i­can Awards in Fi­nan­cial and En­tre­pre­neur­ial In­no­va­tion.

Bio-Tech Re­search and De­vel­op­ment In­sti­tute, headed by Dr Henry Lowe, has copped the Lo­cal In­no­va­tor Award to be pre­sented at the Foromic con­fer­ence, which wraps up to­day, Wed­nes­day, in Mon­tego Bay.

Bio-Tech Re­search de­vel­ops phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal and nu­traceu­ti­cal prod­ucts derived from indige­nous plants.

IDB also said in­sti­tu­tions from Chile and Peru will also re­ceive awards in fi­nan­cial and en­tre­pre­neur­ial in­no­va­tion.

The Foromic con­fer­ence is Dr Henry Lowe, head of Bio-Tech.

More than 1,200 ex­perts in fi­nan­cial ser­vices, in­ter­na­tional de­vel­op­ment, en­trepreneur­ship and other re­lated fields from across the re­gion were reg­is­tered for the con­fer­ence, which is be­ing held for the se­cond time in the English-speak­ing Caribbean.
