11-year-old murder case fails to start

Jamaica Gleaner - - OPINION & COMMENTARY -

THE EDITOR, Sir: BELIEVE IT or not, December 31, 2016 will be 11 years since Jamie Lue, an innocent citizen of Jamaica, was brutally murdered by gunmen.

To date, the trial has not started, and I have read about several murder cases after his being closed.

One of the former prime ministers, Hon Bruce Golding, was written to in an attempt to have this trial started. He wrote to the director of public prosecutions (DPP) and one of her representatives stated that the trial would have started over five years ago.

The Hon Andrew Holness, would you please assist the family members of the deceased to get closure in this horrible situation?

It is quite clear that we have a failed justice system in Jamaica and that the office of the DPP needs restructuring. ANGELLA SOUTAR soutarangellasoutar59@ gmail.com
