Jamaica Gleaner - - ARTS&EDUCATION - – Erica Brown Marriott

(In memory of the late Nicholas Francis, 14-year-old Jamaica College student) His cellular phone and watch enticed a knife to stop his breath. The hand which used the knife was stained with callousness. The rotting mind and heart that did propel the act Will never outrun all the blood Time will see to that! Time will force the beast to face his sordid self. Only time will cause his icy heart to melt. Time will bring him gifts of sorrow so he’ll be made to feel The outcome of his venom Upon an innocent human being. To think a cellular phone and watch Could value more than life Cuts through a new reality Might I say Like a knife? ‘Nick’ dared to show resistance To defend what was his! A knife it was that took him out Against his will. Rest in peace dear Nicholas Despite our sobs. Some lips are saying quietly Leave everything to God.
