MORE NEWS IN BRIEF Councillor wants faulty drains rectified

Jamaica Gleaner - - INTERNATIONAL NEWS -

Councillor for the Moneague division in the St Ann Parish Council, Lloyd Garrick, is calling on the National Road Operating and Construction Company Ltd to ensure that China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) rectify faulty drains in the division that have led to flooding in some areas.

Over the last few weeks, during heavy showers in St Ann, sections of the Phoenix Park road was flooded as, according to Garrick, the drains constructed by CHEC are too small to manage the volume of water coming off the highway.

“There is a lack of proper drainage,” Garrick told The Gleaner on Monday. “You must put in adequate drains to deal with the water that is coming off the highway, and that is just 1-2-3.

“With the drains that they put in, we told them (CHEC) that they would have to do something else because whenever we start getting heavy rains we’re going to feel it, and we’re feeling it now. The drains are too small and not properly constructed.”

Efforts to get a comment from NROCC were unsuccessful.
