Ma­jor player in lot­tery scam held

ONE OF the ma­jor play­ers in the il­licit lot­tery scam, who was wanted for ex­tra­di­tion to the United States, has been taken into cus­tody fol­low­ing a joint op­er­a­tion by the Counter Ter­ror­ism and Or­gan­ised Crime In­ves­ti­ga­tion Branch (CTOC) and Ma­jor Or­gan­ised Crime and Anti-Cor­rup­tion Agency (MOCA) on Satur­day.

A Pana­ma­nian woman who at­tempted to help him es­cape a po­lice drag­net was also taken into cus­tody for im­mi­gra­tion and other vi­o­la­tions.

He is 27-year-old of Lavar­ick Wil­locks of Tor­tuga Drive, Green­wood in Trelawny, who has been wanted for ex­tra­di­tion to the US since March.

The woman has been iden­ti­fied as 23year-old Aylin Panay.

Ear­lier this year, a ma­jor op­er­a­tion was con­ducted across Western Ja­maica, the Cor­po­rate Area and St Mary to cap­ture Wil­locks and his as­so­ciates. Nine­teen per­sons were taken into cus­tody, in­clud­ing seven for whom ex­tra­di­tion war­rants were ex­e­cuted. He, how­ever, man­aged to elude the po­lice and had been on the run since.
