Jamaica Gleaner - - SPORTS -

FOLLOWING THEIR absence last year, the JN Girlz will be back in the senior Florida Netball Classic next weekend.

Josette Smith Scott, team manager, said that the squad of 17 will be at the Carter Park, Sunrise, on November 19 and 20, for the 2016 tournament, adding that the team has participated in the Florida classic three times previously. The JN Girlz is the representative team of the Jamaica-based Jamaica National Group.

“This is a developmental experience for us,” Smith Scott said. “We have been improving our performance in Jamaica’s Business House Netball Association (BHNA) competition, and we are looking forward to the competition on this international stage.”

More than 20 teams from across the world are expected to participate this year in the netball event in Florida.

The 25th Annual Florida Netball Classic is at a new venue – Carter Park – this year, which can accommodate multiple courts as the interest from teams around the world grows. Apart from the consistent Caribbean participation, teams from Kenya, Australia, and New The JN Girlz in the dress parade and rally of the Business House Netball Association competition at the Independence Park Complex earlier this year.

Zealand have also shown interest in participating.

Many of the teams participating in the Florida Netball Classic are from Jamaica’s BHNA, and so the JN Girlz are also likely to come up against strong competitors from the local league.
