JA BizTown is Ja­maica’s new­est town lo­cated on the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion’s Caen­wood prop­erty at 37 Arnold Road in Kingston. The town was opened ap­prox­i­mately one year ago and was specif­i­cally cre­ated for chil­dren to give them first-hand and prac­ti­cal ex­pe­ri­ence in busi­ness man­age­ment and op­er­a­tions.

The town com­prises sev­eral re­al­life pri­vate-sec­tor busi­nesses, in­clud­ing CB Tuck­shop, EY, First Global Bank, FLOW, GB Tex­aco, Guards­man, Ja­maica Pub­lic Ser­vice, Ja­maica Yel­low Pages and

Span­ish Court Ho­tel. At JA BizTown, chil­dren are both work­ers and con­sumers, and there­fore en­gage in ac­tiv­i­ties such as run­ning busi­nesses, earn­ing pay­cheques, con­duct­ing fi­nan­cial trans­ac­tions at the bank, pay­ing bills and in­vest­ing in busi­nesses.

JA BizTown is an ini­tia­tive of JA Ja­maica and is tar­geted at Grade-five stu­dents. The ini­tia­tive is de­signed to de­velop the busi­ness IQ of stu­dents and pre­pare them with the skillsets needed for the world of work.
