Redefining martial arts training and fitness in Jamaica
WHEN MATTHEW Auld and Tamara Younis started The Iron Lotus Martial Arts Academy three years ago, it was the realisation of a dream to help Jamaicans of all ages become better version of themselves through the various techniques of martial arts.
Today, the institution is well on its way of revolutionising the application of martial arts and energy medicine for positive lifestyle changes. It is the only institution of its kind in Jamaica offering an extensive array of fitness and martial arts classes.
In the 1900 square feet located at 176 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6, Sifu Matthew and Sije Tamara have provided a peaceful environment in which individuals as young as four years are sufficiently and safely challenged to develop and increase fitness, strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, coordination and rid excess weight.
The academy’s fitness studio is specifically geared towards adults and incorporates martial arts techniques and heart-rate monitoring. Members can purchase an heart rate monitor chest strap from the studio that has Bluetooth 4.0. A heart-rate tracking program is used throughout the workout routines to show members how much calories they are burning and help the instructors decide if an individual should increase or decrease their intensity.
The academy also offers kickboxing and traditional
Chinese Martial arts classes for teens and martial arts classes for kids ages four and up. They also offer workshops for self-defence and meditation. Yang-style tai chi classes are available upon request for semi-private and small group classes, as well as self-defence, lion dances and energy medicine.
