Ju­nior Achieve­ment Com­pany of En­trepreneurs (JACE) Pro­gramme

THE JU­NIOR Achieve­ment Com­pany of En­trepreneurs (JACE) Pro­gramme is a sig­na­ture pro­gramme de­liv­ered by Ju­nior Achieve­ment (JA) Ja­maica. It fo­cuses on in­tro­duc­ing stu­dents to en­trepreneur­ship; teach­ing them to put the­ory into prac­tice by start­ing their own busi­ness en­ter­prises. It also helps stu­dents to think cre­atively and am­bi­tiously, de­velop workreadi­ness skills, in­ter­per­sonal com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills and prob­lem-solv­ing skills.

The pro­gramme was first es­tab­lished in 2009 and was ini­tially of­fered as an af­ter­school pro­gramme in ap­prox­i­mately 50 high schools across the is­land. How­ever, in an ef­fort to en­cour­age en­trepreneur­ship among high-school stu­dents, JA Ja­maica in part­ner­ship with the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, Youth and In­for­ma­tion has ex­panded the JACE Pro­gramme to all grade-nine stu­dents is­land­wide. The expansion be­gan in Septem­ber of this year, and the pro­gramme is now of­fered in dif­fer­ent high schools in an in-school or af­ter-school set­ting. With the expansion, JA Ja­maica and the min­istry ex­pect that the pro­gramme will reach over 40,000 stu­dents an­nu­ally by 2019.
