SFP six-a-side football final today
DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Eurotrend will be looking to create history in the 2016 Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce six-a-side football competition by becoming the first team to win the title twice when they oppose Ashoka in tomorrow’s final at 451 Spanish Town Road (Waterhouse) opposite Wray & Nephew starting at 4.00 p.m.
Eurotrend defeated 2015 beaten finalists Miles 2-1 on the back of a double strike from Kevin Romans, with Jermaine Gardener scoring for Miles in semi-final two.
Ashoka, meanwhile, clipped Henley 5-4 on penalties after the scores were locked 0-0 in regulation and extra time.
The winner of today’s final will receive $150,000. Incidentally, host FraserPryce actually grew up on Ashoka Road in the Waterhouse community.
At 3 p.m., Miles and Henley will meet in the third-place play-off. The day’s activity will start at 2:30 p.m. when the under15 youth teams of Ashoka and Miles will meet in a junior talent exposure game.
Andre Hickling of Miles, Gavin McKay of Malhatra and Akeem Peterson of Youths United are the competition’s leading scorers with three goals each.
Olympic and World 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (second left) hands over the trophy and cheque for $180,000 to manager Ryan Douglas (fourth left) and his winning team, Eurotrend, after they defeated Miles 1-0 in last year’s final.
