All is set for G.C. Foster’s 5K Fun Run/Walk
ALL IS now set for the G.C. Foster College 5K Fun Run/Walk, which will be held in Angels, Spanish Town, on Sunday, November 27.
The event was launched the college’s board room last Wednesday.
The 5K event, which is set to start at 2 p.m., will be held under the theme ‘Recreation, Health and Wellness for the Spanish Town Community’.
Committee chairman of the event Maurice Wilson has high expectations for the meet.
“G.C. Foster College is truly leading the way in sports in the region, and because of our great success in this area, we expect a well-run event as we have the expertise to deliver here,” said Wilson.
Principal of G.C. Foster College Joyce Graham Royal thanked the event’s planning committee, and, like Wilson, boasted about the achievements of the institution.
“G.C. Foster College is really setting the pace in track and field, and we are really proud of the achievements of the athletes who have graduated from the institution,” Graham Royal said.
The occasion was also used to recognise three Olympians from the institution with plaques. The athletes were Sasha Lee Forbes, Aneisha McLaughlin-Whilby, and Ristananna Tracy, who were all members of the Olympic team in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Sports analyst Hubert Lawrence also lauded the achievements of the three athletes. He encouraged those who did not make it to Rio to think about the future as the past is now history and to double their efforts for the future.
Dennis Gordon, chief executive officer of Jac Den enterprise, spoke on behalf of the sponsors, which include Digicel, NCB, Tropical Blue, Derrimon Distributors, HiLyte, Marksman, and On Di Run.
Secretary of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association Garth Gayle said the event had the full support of the national body.
