Ma­jor Lazer and Friends re­turns

FOR THE fifth con­sec­u­tive year, Ma­jor Lazer, the dancehall-in­spired trio com­pris­ing of Di­plo, Jil­lion­aire and Wal­shy Fire, re­turns to Ja­maica on Fri­day, De­cem­ber 16. The group will in­vite sur­prise spe­cial guests to join them for their annual Ma­jor Lazer and Friends show at Kingston’s Mas Camp, pre­sented by Bac­ardi.

Ma­jor Lazer’s third al­bum, Peace Is The Mis­sion, re­leased in June 2015, fea­tured the smash hit Lean On, which be­came the most suc­cess­ful in­de­pen­dently re­leased song of all time af­ter peak­ing at num­ber one on Top 40 charts.

Prior to Peace Is the Mis­sion, the band col­lab­o­rated with the likes of Bruno Mars, Phar­rell, Sean Paul, and 2 Chainz, and their sin­gle, Pon De Floor, was sam­pled by Bey­once for her chart top­per, Run The World (Girls).

Since Ma­jor Lazer’s last trip to Kingston, they’ve be­come the first ma­jor pop act from the USA to per­form in Cuba since the re­in­state­ment of diplo­matic re­la­tions. There were over 400,000 peo­ple in at­ten­dance . They also re­leased two more hit sin­gles, Light It Up (Remix) fea­tur­ing Nyla, and Fuse ODG and Cold Wa­ter, fea­tur­ing Justin Bieber and MO, which also hit num­ber one in dozens of coun­tries world­wide.

Ma­jor Lazer con­tin­ues to head­line ma­jor fes­ti­vals world­wide, in­clud­ing Coachella, Glas­ton­bury, Bon­na­roo, Lol­la­palooza, Read­ing & Leeds Fes­ti­val, and more.

Past Ma­jor Lazer & Friends events have fea­tured Skrillex, DJ Snake, Martin Gar­rix, Rudi­men­tal, Sean Paul, Machel Mon­tano, and oth­ers. The annual event has gar­nered the at­ten­tion of notable pub­li­ca­tions such as Rolling Stone and GQ; both of which have cre­ated doc­u­men­taries ex­plor­ing the cul­ture that heav­ily de­fines Ma­jor Lazer’s sound and aesthetic.

“Many styles of mu­sic from around the world are on dis­play in this one show,” says Ma­jor Lazer’s Wal­shy Fire.

“Each year, we try to up the ante. This year, we are in­tro­duc­ing a view­ing deck with an exclusive VIP bar pre­sented by Bac­ardi to add to the mix. We have some other amaz­ing plans that are sure to please our pa­trons and raise the bar, but these will be an­nounced closer to the date,” said pro­moter Ka­mal Bankay. “Our main ob­jec­tive is to cre­ate an ex­pe­ri­ence that pa­trons can just fully im­merse them­selves while en­joy­ing a com­pletely dy­namic sound,” he added.

Early bird tick­ets for $3,000 went on sale as of Fri­day, Novem­ber 18, and are avail­able at the Rib­biz Ul­tra Lounge.
