Major Lazer and Friends returns
FOR THE fifth consecutive year, Major Lazer, the dancehall-inspired trio comprising of Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire, returns to Jamaica on Friday, December 16. The group will invite surprise special guests to join them for their annual Major Lazer and Friends show at Kingston’s Mas Camp, presented by Bacardi.
Major Lazer’s third album, Peace Is The Mission, released in June 2015, featured the smash hit Lean On, which became the most successful independently released song of all time after peaking at number one on Top 40 charts.
Prior to Peace Is the Mission, the band collaborated with the likes of Bruno Mars, Pharrell, Sean Paul, and 2 Chainz, and their single, Pon De Floor, was sampled by Beyonce for her chart topper, Run The World (Girls).
Since Major Lazer’s last trip to Kingston, they’ve become the first major pop act from the USA to perform in Cuba since the reinstatement of diplomatic relations. There were over 400,000 people in attendance . They also released two more hit singles, Light It Up (Remix) featuring Nyla, and Fuse ODG and Cold Water, featuring Justin Bieber and MO, which also hit number one in dozens of countries worldwide.
Major Lazer continues to headline major festivals worldwide, including Coachella, Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds Festival, and more.
Past Major Lazer & Friends events have featured Skrillex, DJ Snake, Martin Garrix, Rudimental, Sean Paul, Machel Montano, and others. The annual event has garnered the attention of notable publications such as Rolling Stone and GQ; both of which have created documentaries exploring the culture that heavily defines Major Lazer’s sound and aesthetic.
“Many styles of music from around the world are on display in this one show,” says Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire.
“Each year, we try to up the ante. This year, we are introducing a viewing deck with an exclusive VIP bar presented by Bacardi to add to the mix. We have some other amazing plans that are sure to please our patrons and raise the bar, but these will be announced closer to the date,” said promoter Kamal Bankay. “Our main objective is to create an experience that patrons can just fully immerse themselves while enjoying a completely dynamic sound,” he added.
Early bird tickets for $3,000 went on sale as of Friday, November 18, and are available at the Ribbiz Ultra Lounge.
